[pct-l] Check Cashing

Jeff,
Yeah, that clarifies. I was tryna figure out Y someone hiking the PCT would
need to cash a payroll check. Lol

As I think you've already realized, UR friend can deposit that same money
into your bank acct where it should be immediately be available to your
debit card. I'd recommend you fill-out a deposit slip/envelope before you
leave & give him instructions as to where your bank is located. OR...Better
yet...just have him deposit the money b4 U leave & give it back if U don't
need it. Assuming that it's not a ton of money.

Now as far as stores on the PCT are concerned...what part are you hiking?
I've been to a couple stores on the PCT in my area (Central CA)...and I
don't remember them having Debit Card Swipers...U would prob be a lot safer
just carrying at least some cash just in case.

Josh

Sorry, I should have clarified. I realize a debit card is the way to go, and
is what I WILL be using. I don't ask because I want to write a check myself
and have it cashed. I ask because I have a friend that is willing to send me
money (if need be) after I'm on the trail, but doesn't feel comfortable
sending cash through the mail.

Hi Jeff -

I don't know of any check cashing services, but would guess that if you have
checks, then you have a debit card.  If so, then any Post Office will give
you cash - I believe up to $50, if you make a minimal purchase.  Also, large
supermarkets [Safeway's, etc.] will give you cash if you make a purchase
there with a debit card.
