We get them here . . . they're hilarious.  They're relatively common in the
southern California deserts.

Ouuuu, they're pretty cute!  I agree with you, Donna, they definitely
shouldn't be called rats.  I hereby begin a movement among hikers/ angels/
other interested folk to change their names to kangaroo mice, at least the
ones in Swarthout Canyon.  But is this part of the range for Kangaroo mice?
Seems a bit far West maybe.  I wish they lived up here...maybe too cold, but
then central CAN in the winter?  I don't think we get colder here than they
do!
Anyway...Kangaroo Mice Rock!!!
