If some guy carries too few layers of clothing on the trail and that kills 135 other people on the trail in 2 years, then maybe the government should look into it.  In reality, people carrying too much stuff does lead to many hikes ending prematurely with injury or unhappiness, so we do discuss light gear on the list often, since it pertains to the PCT.

If some guy starting a campfire kills 135 other people on the trail in 2  years, then maybe the government should look into it.  In reality, it only occasionally leads to destroyed wilderness, so we do discuss fire regulations and safe campfires on the list often, since it pertains to the PCT.

If some guy carrying only 2 liters of water kills 135 other people on the trail in 2 years, then maybe the government should look into it.  In reality, lack of water occasionally leads to death by dehydration for the person who wasn't carrying enough water, and we talk about water lots on the list, since it pertains to the PCT.

I won't mention the G word, but you hopefully can continue the parallel construction and get the point that the list about government intrusion makes no useful point about the PCT (or anything) at all.
