And that's how it works. Haven't we seen that happen on Everest? People who 
have limited experience but have lots of money buy their way up the mountain 
regardless of their physical ability (even carried if need be)!

Apparently you – and certainly I – would not be willing to cough-up that
much money for a trip that we could do ourselves, but that option is out of
reach for many interested hikers.  It remains to be seen if 8 people are
willing to pay that price, but if 8 do enroll, the price is just right.  If
only a few enroll they will have to either lower the price or cancel the
trip.  If they are swamped with applicants, the first 8 get that price but
for the next trip(s) the price should increase until again only 8 are
willing to pay the new price.  Supply-and-demand says that selling price has
nothing whatever to do with the cost to perform.


For people willing to pay that much, 7.5 miles per day would probably be
just right.
