Hey Chuck--I moved from Anchorage, Alaska to Talent, Oregon--which is next to Ashland but way less expensive. I love it--I'm only 15 minutes from downtown Ashland, but live in a small house next to a creek on a property that has an organic garden. There is plenty of hiking up the road and on sections of the PCT. Plus it is near I-5 for easy access to California (I love the Sierras). No sales tax here. Lots of liberal people--Ashland has a huge solar power bank and seeing electric cars is not an anomaly. Plenty of good things to do.
