We agree with what Scott said, "Consider choosing a start date that reflects 
the trail conditions and your
 ability to deal with those conditions."

If snow is no big deal, start anytime you want after mid-March when the snow 
is settling, consolidating, and safer. This will give you a longer hiking 
season and lower daily miles. As Scott said, it's based on your ability to 
deal with the conditions anticipated.

What you won't know until Spring is just how much snow you'll be walking 
over. If snow is something that is to be avoided at all cost and there is a 
lot up there, then start late. From our point of view teaching just how easy 
it really is to hike, camp, and navigate in the snow, especially Spring 
snow, whether you're dealing with 6" or 6 feet, it's all the same.
