[pct-l] Question about Training

The fitter you are at the start, the better! But that is not the main
issue. The two main issues are gear and feet. Be comfortable with your
gear; especially your pack. An uncomfortable pack will soon kill your
desire to hike. Do a few hikes with it loaded 30-40lbs and be satisfied
that your body can take it.

What will stop you though is foot problems. Though your feet will harden
up, it can be a long painful process. For training, go for lots and lots of
walks and hikes. The more and the longer the better. Be really sure before
you start that your feet are comfortable. Be prepared to make major changes
to your footware; eg carry a different type of inner.

Then start with low miles and monitor your feet constantly. Even better,
change your inners every day or half day to prevent problems occurring.
