You might want her to consider taking the tram ride up from Palm Springs to San Jacinto. You guys could either meet at the restaurant there (or maybe at SJ peak?) and continue north or she could just make the easy hike over to Devil's Slide and descend down into Idyllwild to meet you in town.

I've got a friend flying into Palm Springs on May 6, and I need to get  
her to Idyllwild. She's going to be doing a few weeks on the trail  
with me. What are my public transportation options? Is there anyone in  
the area who can give her a ride?  Of course gas money and a six pack  
of your choice would be included.  Contact me off-list with rides,  on- 
list with info.
