[pct-l] Kick-Off

I had a great time at my 5th Kick-off. The organizers and volunteers did a great job and disserve all of our thanks. The venders were wonderful as ever. It is so great to see and feel their products and not just read about them. The gear contest was a lot of fun but I missed the announcement of the winner. Who/what was it? I liked the backpack/tent and the light weight bow fire starter.

Although it was warm during the day, it got cold at night. All the due and condensation on and in my tent froze, burr! I did not get out of my nice warm sleeping bag till dawn even once, even to go to the bathroom.

Everyone was friendly and seemed to be having a good time. There were good people in my camping space. I enjoyed meeting them. I saw old friends from previous hikes and met some of the faces that I know from here and that's always fun.

When driving down, I always drive through Warner Springs, Scissors Crossing and the Mt. Laguna to pick-up hikers and take them into the Kick-Off. This year I drove through about 12:30 PM and there were none to be found and no one had even signed the register at , Scissors Crossing. At the store on Mt. Laguna they told me that about 20 hikers had spent the night there but all caught rides to kick-off before I arrived.

I did see a number of hikers on my way back. I dropped one off at Mt. Laguna. I saw one going up into the San Fellipe Hill and I saw a pair taking off on the north side of Warner Springs.

I hope to see some of you on the trail this year. I wish good hiking to you all.
