[pct-l] Every oz. counts....the lighter the better

You and me both.  Being the ounce counter that I am, when I first saw photos of some of those beards at the end of the trail, my first thought was "how much do they weigh?"  Afterall, we spend huge amounts of money just to cut a few ounces from our packs and then some go out and grow some of that weight back. 

For the record, I hiked cleaned shaven (actually, most of the middle age men that I hiked around did the same for some reason while the 20 somethings had the huge Charlie Manson beards going).  I was actually told that I looked more like a hiker after I was home for a few months and grew a goatee and let my hair grow longer then I did on the trail.
