[pct-l] Lone Pine vs Independance resupply:

If you go out via Horseshoe Meadows to Lone Pine, a stay at the Dow is
nearly ideal, especially with the excellent food and services nearby.

The next stop would be out via Kearsarge to Independence and a stay at the
Winnedumah Hotel (more of a B & B, really) is perfect! Frank (the owner) is
willing to bend over backwards to accommodate all thru hikers needing
round-trip transportation from and back to the trail, a drive up to the
supermarkets in Bishop, use of his laundry, computer, and kitchen
facilities, and he'll hold your boxes or the P.O. is just across the street!
Prices are as-you-can-pay (more or less) and he and his wife are fantastic
people. www.winnedumah.com

(If you don't want to go up and over another pass, you can drop down to the
west to Cedar Grove and road's end where there may be a manned Ranger
Station, campground, and minor store).

The next worthy resupply route to consider is out via Bishop Pass from its
intersection in LeConte Canyon to Parchers Resort a mile down the road from
the eastside trail head. Jared, the manager of the resort, is more than
happy to accommodate all thru hikers heading up the trail. He will hold your
boxes, take you into town (Bishop), offer an inexpensive bunkhouse to
"crash" in for a room, there is a laundry facility just down the road, and
they have wireless internet (I believe). Good folks, good food, too!

In order to keep packs light through the snowy challenges of the High Sierra
in May and June, it is our recommendation that thru hikers assume there will
be lots of snow to exhaust you so you should consider as many resupplies as
necessary so daily mileage can be as low as possible.
