I wouldn't hesitate.  Yes, it takes a bit of time to get used to one's
shelter, but you get pretty efficient after a couple of weeks.  Aside from
weather considerations (we had snowfall, rainfall and mist last year in
southern Ca), it was SO nice to get away from the ever-friendly mossies.
FWIW, we used a Big Sky tent, 2-person, free-standing, less than 3 pounds,
but pricey.  Loved it and will use it again.
