Statewide 57% was probably accurate - BUT the 57% is in comparison to the April 1st average MAXIMUM...
Depends on the 'terminology' (which can easily be misinterpreted) & how you look at the 'data'...  ;-)
As ProDeal said - it will be interesting to follow it over the next few months...

See <http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cdecapp/snowapp/swcchart.action> to also compare to some previous years...
This chart also notes the current sectional % of April 1st average plus % of 'normal' average to date...
The % of normal to date is very high, especially for the southern Sierra (267%)...

It will indeed be 'interesting' to follow in the coming months, especially for the class of 2011...  ;-)
