Because of the climate, this won't work in most of Southern
California, and wood fires outside of developed campgrounds (marked by
yellow metal posts) are always prohibited, and ALL fires are
prohibited for a good part of the year.

In high use areas of the Sierra there are fire restrictions at higher altitudes.
