IMO, the best trail journals I have read are Elevator (2006, on
trailjournals.com) ans Rolling Thunder (2006, on trailjournals.com)

Elevator fits both categories. Rolling Thunder fits the second.
Steel-Eye also has great preparation advice, and his journals are very
readable.
