I have always found it best to carry a Powerbar in Bear Country. 
 
if it is cold when the bear chases you toss him the Powerbar & it will break
all of his teeth. Problem Solved.
 
if it is hot when he chases you toss him the Powerbar.& his teeth will all
be glued together. Problem Solved.
