Hi Eugene,

At first glance, nice thought, BUT...  Have you discussed this with Halfmile??
Halfmile's maps are "for hikers personal or educational use."
Also stated on the website is "Printable maps are created using National Geographic TOPO! software 
and offered for download under license from National Geographic Inc.  Maps copyright © National 
Geographic, Inc and copyright Halfmile Media." 

I certainly don't think Halfmile had any intentions of someone else "publishing a book" using his maps,
nor to have someone (Lulu, at least) possibly profit in such an endeavor...
You need to contact Halfmile before you proceed further!  
Also check Lulu's fine print for what they might possibly (legally) do with said 'publication'...
