[pct-l] Newcomb's Ranch Closing

According to the Times article, the Ranch has been there in one form or another since the early 1900s.  It was rebuilt at least once after being destroyed by fire.  I would imagine someone will eventually buy it, assuming the owner does sell.  He hasn't put it on the market yet, according to the article.  The owner is a doctor who lives in a nearby foothill community.  Sounds like he has money to burn, and should keep it open ; ) , after all, we can't take it with us, and it benefits so many, when we are able to reach it.

The rain has resumed here in Torrance again, as of 11 AM.  I hope the San Gabriel's, etc., don't slide.

"How's Your Trail?"  My Grandson and I went there after our hike in 04' and
they treated us like royalty. We got there about 3pm and my wife wasn't
going to pick us up until midnight. We ate and played pool had a few brews,
we only paid for the food and drink. When they closed at 10pm one of the
guys let us watch a movie on his DVD player outside and gave us change to
call him when we were ready to leave so he could come down and get it back.
Awesome guys and good food, lots of crotch rockets and good guys to talk to
sorry to see it go, maybe someone should buy it. Well remember "Be Prepared"

I just read an article in the LA Times stating that the owner of
Newcomb's Ranch, located on Angeles Crest Highway, may not reopen
after this most recent closure due to the stormy weather.  Too many
road closures, due to fire and weather and landslides, have severely
hurt the business, according to the article.  I am not sure how many
hikers used the Ranch, but I know I'll miss it on my way home from my
favorite training hike up Baden Powell.
