The text you are reading right now is 'bottom-posted'.
The direction is relative to the quoted text of the message
to which you are replying.

The arguments in favor of either method are close to
religious in nature but the main argument in favor of
bottom posting is that it retains the chronological
order of the the discussion (IMHO).

Most people top-post because their email client
composes a reply that way placing their cursor
at the top of the message instead of at the bottom.

Personally I dislike top-posting and subconsciously
associate it with newbies since bottom-posting was
long established as the correct method prior to
the explosion of mass-market Internet access in
the mid 90s.
