  Yes, once again, your PCT intrepid hero and trail raconteur, Switchback, has cheated death once again.  This time at the 2010 Walker Pass Food Ruck.  Manyon Ed again orchestrated an outstanding event (Thursday, June 3-Sunday, June 6).  Scores of hikers were served outstanding foods.
   
  My donuts ran out Saturday morning.  I will have to bring more next year for Sunday morning too - maybe 8 boxes instead of just 6 boxes.  I had over 150 delicious donuts for the hikers.  Needless to say, they were a BIG hit.  I got a round of applause from the hikers.  Other foods included steaks, chicken, salads, tofu, chips, cookies, eggs, French toast, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream, bottles of water, etc.  Speaking of cookies, Clippers mailed to Onyx a big order of organic power trial cookies from her home.  
   
  Mr. and Mrs. Bear Bait were there helping and cooking big time too.  I bought little Bear Bait a foam pirate sword at Kernville and gave it to him at the Ruck.  He promptly started to slash and cut his father up.  I was surprised at his expertise and viciousness.  Very cool --- a future trail pirate in the making.  
   
  Yogi was there with a friend and did lots of good works.  She drove 24 hours from her home to be at the Ruck.  This type of dedication blows me away.  Warner Springs Monty was there too doing his outstanding cooking, etc.  Kathie came down from Yosemite too.  Everyone was offering food and cold beer to the hikers as they came in off the trial --- fantastic.  Everyone was very well behaved and grateful for the Ruck.  It was a super fun event with me getting lots of goof-off time around the area.  Nitro, the PCTA SoCal coordinator also was there for a day or so.
   
  I stayed at the Kernville Inn for two nights.  On Friday morning I drove from Kernville up to the Sequoia trees at the Trail of the 100 Giants.  I had dinner Friday at Erwings overlooking the Kern River.  The Alaskan halibut was outstanding.  Saturday I drove up to Lone Pine and stayed at the Dow Villas Motel.  I went up to the Whitney Portal Store to talk to Doug and have lunch.  The veggie burger was outstanding --- highly recommended.  One thing that surprised me was the cost of the hiker shower behind the store.  It is only $3.00.  I think back 40 years ago it was $1.50.  This has to be one of the outstanding bargains in the Sierras.  The view of the Sierras from Lone Pine was fantastic with the peaks half covered in snow.
   
  Of course, I sneaked back to the Ruck everyday to act like I was there all the time.  But Crash always seem to see me.  I think he was the Ruck sergeant-at-arms.  I screwed the thru-hikers that wanted to have me paint their shelter stakes florescent orange.  I was gone so much out goofing off that I was never around when someone wanted their stakes painted.  But I did demo my Hiker Oxygen Concentrator.  This had people amazed at my creativity and ingenuity.  Then it disappeared.  I figure I will see it come out commercially someday under someone else's name and patent.  I can easily make another.
   
  I tried to introduce myself as Manyon Ed to the new hikers walking into the Ruck.  Since I spend most of my time sitting in a chair and resting at the Ruck from mini goof off road trips.  I figured I could scam everyone into thinking I was someone who was actually working.  Never underestimate the pleasure of sitting back and relaxing as others are scurrying around like busy little bees.  This is especially satisfying when it is women who are running about.  I do not know why this is, but it some deep ancient gene in men.  I held out my empty food plate in one hand and an imaginary can in the other and asked what was missing from this picture.  Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.  Women have this ancient gene to nurture men and it is up to men to take advantage and exploit this to the fullest.  It is our sacred duty.
   
  I came back to the Ruck Sunday morning from Lone Pine and sat around and giving out cookies and chips to the hikers.  Then I packed up and headed back to Las Vegas around 1000.  This was another outstanding adventure completed by Switchback - minimum work and maximum fun.  Mayon Ed told me that just after I left about 18 hikers came down the hill to the Ruck.
