[pct-l] What's a "register?"

Good morning, Cate,

Many people or organizations leave some kind of a book or loose-leaf folder
at facilities or trailheads for hikers to use in documenting their passing
and make comments. No-one has to use them, but they can make interesting
reading – as in, who’s ahead and how many days. Some hikers like to use
them because if they don’t arrive somewhere at the correct time searchers
can narrow the possible search locations.
