OKay well im not trying to complain... But I took a look at this years
bandanas and... COME ON!!! PINK????? Really? its kinda hard to see a
male hiker as masculine when he says, "Ya im walking across the U.S." while
holding a PINK Bandana. Hahaha. I dont know... I really think its awesome
they make those for us but couldnt they have made its color a little more
gender neutral?
Am I just not "SECURE" enough or do other guys have a problem with this?

Good afternoon, Adam,

I hiked with a number of women in '07 and I didn't hear one of them
sniveling about that year's baby-blue bandannas.

You're not going to let a bunch of girls out-secure you this year, are you?

Seconded. Aside from any insecurities about wearing a pink bandana, I don't
see it improving my chances of catching a ride into town.

It looks like they've managed to avoid using the same color twice so far but
obviously they'll run out sooner or later. Since the new-color-every-year
scheme can't continue much longer, is there any reason to do this even for
the time being? Why not just pick a color and stick with it? Updating the
class year should be differentiation enough.

Nothing but gratitude to those involved with making the bandanas, I just
find the color objectionable.

Ben

Now granted, I am the guy who wore a 'man dress' in the desert, but
pink is cool. My 'man dress' ended up being....advantagous... in a
couple of ways. The pink might be good.

Hot pink is the in colour this year in Korea: my brother-in-law teaches in Seoul
and says all the cool college guys wear black & pink and have pink phones and pink laptops.

Give it a few hundred miles of sun bleaching and trail dirt, it won't be pink for long.

True story.? In '06 I was at the shelter just north of Max Patch on the AT with a couple of thrus and one girl who was sectioning.? I was wearing a pink do-rag.? The girl (Bugger was her T.N.) commented that a guy has to be very confident in his sexuality to wear a pink do-rag.

Several months later I thought of what I wish I'd said in response.? "Thanks.? I bought it before my sex-change operation.".

I believe that there was a group of hikers ('05/'06?) that hiked together and used hammocks, the Ewoks. I'm not positive but check out Trailjournals for first hand experience. I met a hiker in '06 that had used a hammock from the border to KM. He frequently cowboy camped but was surprised at the number of nights that he was able to hang if he chose to.

Most the the trail outside of the deserts and the high Sierra passes is forrested. The only exception that I can think of is on the Hat Creek Rim just north of Old Station,CA. And even there, it isn't that there aren't any trees, just that they are far and few in between but something should work.

Someone asked awhile ago about the use of cell phones with Pocketmail.
Accoding to an insert I had with mine, it says,
"The PocketMail Composer is fully compatible with T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T
and Nextel digital and analog cell-phones. While using the PocketMail
Composer with Spring[t] and Verizon, we recommend you switch your cell phne
to analog mode, as transmission may not be reliable on all handsets in
digital mode."
I can vouch for the fact that PocketMail did not work with Sprint.
