Most people aren't sleeping right on top of a cactus, so if your  
inflatable or your ground cloth will hold up in a forest full of  
sticks, it'll hold up in southern California.

Also, I used the polycro sheets. They are much sturdier than they  
appear. You can also patch any tears with tape. I had one last over  
1500 miles and another lasted 1800 with a few pieces of tape.
