I had the same experience.  I tossed the pants and used a rain skirt.  I had
a spare top sent by my resupply as I figured they might not last the whole
trip.   I had a zipper fail on one top and had maybe 3 small holes duct
taped by the time I got to Manning.

I would definitely recommend the top for California.  At 6 oz the top worked
fine and breathed as well as anything else I've used.  I've still not found
the perfect rain gear - I probably never will, but will keep trying to find
it. Living in Southern Arizona I don't get a lot of practice dealing with
the rain.  If anyone knows were I can find a $30 eVent rain jacket let me
know (TIC)!   Also be aware that the sizing on dri-ducks runs very large.  A
Medium is very big.
