Hi Bill,

I reviewed the babesiosis disease you mentioned because I wasn't familiar with it, even though I treat
ticks like the plague regardless. I wear UltraThon 12 hour repellent from my upper thighs down to my
ankles & treat my hiking clothes (shoes, socks, pants, shirt, hat, backpack) with Sawyer permithrin spray ("6 week protection") to avoid trouble.

In any case, the WebMD article mentions it as one potential problem from ticks.... but advises
that particular disease is "rare." Maybe its more of an East Coast issue? Just the same, prevention is the best bet.

Not only can you get Lyme Disease, there's also a nasty disease called
babesiosis that comes from the same deer tick. Google it if you can stand
reading about it. A friend has been suffering for years with severe fatigue
and anemia and is disabled because of babesiosis.

I live in a deer tick hot spot on the East Coast and I'd advise getting the
antibiotic even before a Lyme rash develops. If you have a deer tick
attached to you for more than 24 hours you are at risk.
