As BillB said, the Garmin 24K maps are DVD are a good way to go:

Amazon usually has a good price on this DVD.

You will need a microSD card for your Etrex. I suggest you get a 4 GB
once since they cost so little these days.

You will also want Garmin's free POI loader software:
http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

WIth POI loader you can easily load 6,600 of my PCT waypoints. If you
really don't want to buy maps for your GPS you can just load my free
waypoints and navigate with them. It's a pretty elegant solution when
used with my free printable maps from www.pctmap.net although I like
having the 24K maps loaded.
