I don't know if a zero-degree bag is needed.  I'm from AZ and tend to sleep
cold.  I had a 15 degree Marmot that worked just fine (and we had near
freezing temps lots of nights.  Since so little time is spent sitting around
camp, one doesn't have a chance to cool down.  There are a lot of options
out there in the 15-degree bag type for around 2 pounds.  You might look at
some of the new stretch bags for a better fit.
