[pct-l] horse sweating

Hello Carolyn, Hello Jim,

Primo doesn't sweat as much as most other horses - especially while walking.
Arabians

are a desert breed and are naturally efficient in their use of water. Since
Primo rarely broke a sweat on the trail, he didn't even need to drink as much as
other horses might have to.  He is an endurance horse and one of his advantages
over other horses is that he is built more like a radiator than like a boiler.
He cools, in part, by radiating heat from his skin - his ratio of skin area to
body mass is favorable to staying cool. Notice that heavier built humans will
usually have to drink more water and will sweat more on a warm day to cool than
skinny ones like me. Of course, during a long distance race, moving at a trot
and canter, he will sweat to cool.

MendoRider,

How often do you bathe your horse?
The horse is the one doing the majority of the sweating on your treks!  :o) ;-)

Happy trails!!!
Jim (PITA)
