Can't Quit,

Sorry to hear about your upsetting encounter. This is a repost of something
I'd sent out a few weeks back. IMBA (apparently behind the launch of the
suggestion) wants to open the PCT (and other trails) to mountain bikes,
which we all know is a really bad idea. Unfortunately, IMBA is huge,
well-funded, and has many members. Sharing your experience via the forum
referenced below is something that may be therapeutic, at minimum. As
indicated, you must register, then log in to post comments. All the best to
you. L-Rod

President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative is in the final
comment period. Please see below for background on the Initiative. To
register, go to http://ideas.usda.gov/ago/ideas.nsf/. Once you are
registered, you have the opportunity to vote to either promote or demote
various ideas for inclusion in a report to the President.

1.	Please follow this link to promote the idea to Complete the National
Trails System:
http://ideas.usda.gov/ago/ideas.nsf/0/5660B258BA71BDD68625772A0068BAB0?OpenD
ocument

2.	Please follow this link to demote the idea to Support Bicycle
Friendly Policies on Federal Lands (including a request to open the PCT to
bicycles):
http://ideas.usda.gov/ago/ideas.nsf/0/95AEE35223EF23548625779E00719C6B

Background: During a White House Conference on April 16th before 600
conservation and environmental leaders from throughout the country,
President Obama signed a Memorandum establishing the America's Great
Outdoors Initiative to promote and support innovative community-level
efforts to conserve outdoor spaces and to reconnect Americans to the
outdoors. The Initiative will support a 21st century conservation agenda
that builds on successes in communities across the country.

The number of votes cast for proposals and the number of comments that
support or elaborate them will be used to help determine which ideas are
incorporated in the report to President Obama, essentially setting the land
and water protection agenda for this administration. Your vote and your
comments about our national scenic and historic trails, about your
community's and organization's efforts to protect them, and your ideas on
how local, State, and Federal government can support local land and water
conservation efforts will inform collaborative Federal agency reports and
frameworks for a 21st century conservation agenda.

Subject: [pct-l] Bikes on the PCT

Just returned from hiking a segment of section C and  was practically
overrun by
a biker on the trail.  This was my first encounter with a mountain biker on
the
PCT, and it brought to mind the extensive posts that were written recently.
I
thought they had over-stated the audacity of the bikers, but apparently
not.  I
was on a very narrow trail and had to step on a rock overhanging the ridge
in
order for him to pass.  The rider did not slow down at all and expected me
and
my husband to defer to him.  It was not only a rude encounter but especially

hazardous for us.  Argh!!!  Can'tquit
