Sometimes ya just gotta speak up...First of all, nothing personal---mountain 
biking is a great sport---BUT...

I see a big problem here from an equestrian, as well as a hiker, point of view.  
Even hiking we sometimes spook the horses or mules when we come around a corner; 
a bike would be disastrous.  And, there is the element of control on a bike; the 
mountain bikers I have seen really enjoy their downhill speed..  I understand 
the appeal, but not the logic.  With respect, CQ
