Dan,
It rained quite a lot this past spring. At this page:
http://www.weather.gov/climate/getclimate.php?wfo=sgx
You can look up weather history for Campo and see that in April 2010
we had precipitation 8 days totaling 1.74 inches; 4 days > .1 inches;
1 day > .5 inches.
A storm blew through a few days before the 2010 kickoff, collapsing
several tents of hikers camped at Lake Morena and dumping a couple of
inches of snow in the Lagunas. For those of us who were there, it felt
like more rain than the weather service recorded 10 miles away in
campo.
While it may not rain often, I think you always need to be prepared
for rain. A poncho/trap like the Gatewood Cape might be a possible
option if you want to travel very light or at least the rain jacket.
It can be really windy April and May too, so if you go the poncho
route, I would take the wind jacket too.
