I think the major reason for not posting to pct-l about current hikers found on the trails is simply respect to let them post their own journeys, even if the postings are delayed. It's their story to tell personally to people who help them that day and theirs to document for future readers as they wish. Always expect a few days delay in their journals - it doesn't necessarily mean anything is immediately wrong.
