Hey Noel,

Walk, walk, walk and walk some more. Get to really like it, as that will
make the experience much more pleasant, and will slowly over the two years,
toughen your feet, muscles, and all the connective tissue associated with
walking. Little Engine and Plain Slice, living in Brooklyn joined a
backpacking group as Alphabetsoup suggests, and learned a ton. She walked
to work everyday, 6 miles one way, over the Brooklyn Bridge for months to
prepare, and they did really well on trail, never having done any long
distance hikes before, and most important, they enjoyed themselves.

Join and follow this list. The discussions and info. is invaluable, and
given the characters that are part of it, can be a hoot. I mean, just look
at Steel-Eye with his pants down, or maybe don't, but the list he gives is
Gold in the realm of long distance hiking. Bookmark it and refer back, and
thanks for posting it Steel-Eye.

Good luck, and welcome.
