Hi Sofar.
I was delighted to learn that you will be back on the trail with more
determination than ever. I remember you from our meetings in 2008. In 2010 I
tried to find you in Sisters. The Ace hardware said that you went to work for a
bakery. You were not there either. Starting early August, I will be riding,
hopefully, SOBO from Sierra City possibly as far south as Walker Pass. How far I
get will depend on the snow melt and trail damage caused by the snowy winter -
down trees, slides, etc. I am prepared to ride detours.
Have a great hike to Monument 78. I got there in September 2009.

Subject: [pct-l] three simple rules (for me)
I came up with a few simple rules that I will try to follow on my
thru-hike this year:
(1) Don't go home for ANY reason. Not a wedding (you can only hope
they will still be married in October), not for a death (it's a sure
bet they will still be dead in October), and not to FIX something.
Make hiking the trail your highest priority.
(2) Take a zero day now and then. Your boody will enjoy it, but more
important, your spirit will demand it.
(3) Hike one more mile. At the end of the day, I might find a perfect
place to camp, and in the morning, I would find an even BETTER place
to camp about a mile down the trail. I can do a mile in about 20
minutes or so.
When I think I should be done for the day, I may stop and eat, but I
want to try and hike ONE MORE MILE. If I do that 20 times, I've gained
a whole day of hiking.
If I can follow these simple rules, I think I'll make it all the way
to Canada this time.
See you on the trail!
O. Ikem Sofar
