[pct-l] Rare astronomical events for 2012 hikers

Here are two astronomical events, one rare, and the other very rare,
that will be visible along parts of the PCT in the 2012 hiking season.

There's a total solar annular eclipse on May 20, with path of maximum
occlusion in NE California (this will be too early for the thrus).

There's a transit of Venus (across the sun) at sunset, June 5.  See:

NEVER look at the sun directly, even through glacier goggles.  Set up
a pin hole projection camera, or equivalent; see
