You're so right Diane, except for MendoRider obviously. After KO in 2010,
we had been off trail for several days and everyone just wanted to get back
out there and knock out some mileage. As I blasted through the nearly
empty campground outside of Warner Springs a lovely lady at a picnic table
held up a bag of dried apples and hollered at me, offering me a snack. I
yelled back that I really just wanted to knock out some mileage and
continued at full speed. Then she yelled, "How about a beer!!" I felt
like I was a comet suddenly come into a planets gravitational field. I
didn't check my speed at all, I just did a curved trajectory through space
right for that picnic table.

That was Trail Angel Jane, wife of Just Dave who hikes with Zero Zero. The
two of them fed Me and Mango, Golden Child and Gramma Lissa and we all
slowed down again and had a lovely evening meeting two more great people
who ended up becoming very important to me before the end of trail. In
Oct. Jane and Dave gave me their home at Big Bear to stage my final 3 weeks
as I finished in the deserts. Who would have know that early in the hike
how important that offer of a beer would be for me.

The moral is to enjoy anything offered and give back in spades!
