If anyone is going to be doing a lot of camping in Federal Lands
Campgrounds, I suggest getting an annual pass that gets you half price camping and
free entry into National Fee Areas. For Seniors (62+) the lifetime pass is
only $10.

There was a US Forest Service campground next to Shelter Cove resort,
too. $16 bucks a night. Elk Lake Resort also had camping and was
really easy off the trail. I think there were campgrounds along the
road to Bend as well if you didn't want to stay at the resort.
Another option for those more adventurous (or cheap) is that you can
dispersal camp in national forests or BLM land. Just park and camp in
your RV or pitch a tent in the forest. This works well for those
lonely forest roads if you can figure out how to get to them and
where there won't be anybody driving by to bother you.
