There are no grizzly bears in California presently, but up until 1922, and possibly later, they populated
almost the entire state. Estimates of their extinction in the state range from between 1911 and 1922,
which is shortly after the state legislature decided to place the grizzly on the state flag.

Locally, the last grizzley in the Cleveland National Forest was shot in 1904, near Holy Jim Canyon above
Trabuco Canyon Creek. This bear had an insatiable taste for honey, and the bee keeper had a rifle.

Unless Grizzlys can drive, it is unlikely to the extreme that you'll find them in Oregon. Washington? Don't
know, but if you do run into one, at least your body won't go to waste. (just kidding)

Best success!
