I agree that usually I want lots of trail miles on a piece of gear before
trusting it, but with these very specialized UL products, you can't just
find them in stores to try on and be fitted for.  The thing about buying at
kickoff is that the owners and designers are there to fit you properly, and
spend some time showing you the ropes on set up, and use of everything they
sell.  I normally don't shop this way, but think kickoff is an exception
that is worth the risk.
