Muir's prose are simply luminous.  That is one of my favorites, and for me
reflects the eternal nature of life on the trail, as well as that of the
planet.  Traveling across this globe  is in our bones as a species, and
particularly as Americans either Native Americans, or all the rest of us,
from ancient travel across land bridges and ice sheets, to long sailing
voyages, or life under a Conestoga Wagon.  It's  a great legacy, one that I
was particularly aware of on trail.
