I took four thru hikers up Onion Valley to the trailhead yesterday. One said up to that point (they are nobos) the stream crossings are at most thigh deep but the snow is hard and slippery until afternoon. Forrester Pass was the most dangerous pass. They have microspikes and ice axes. Their packs were huge and heavy. More like heavy truckers than ultra-lighters. They could learn a lot from WS Monty, but I am not judging. They made it this far, and they are heading for the border.
