Or in the Grand Canyon or other steep canyons. You can end up at drop off.
It happens to frequently in the Canyon.


I watched an episode of "I shoudn't be alive" and the couple was in the San
Jacintos and had the same problem. They actually found another dead hiker at
the location they were stuck at. Crazy, they did ultimately get a helicopter
ride out but they looked to be on deaths door. They had taken the tram up
and wandered off and got disoriented.

Or in the San Jacintos. If you recall, John Donovan died attempting to
use that technique to find his way into Palm Springs.
