First: HalfMile - many thanks for the maps and all the effort what's gone
into them! But what I've been doing is printing HalfMile's maps on one side
of a page, and then on the backside printing a context map - which uses
1:24k maps for content, but printed in the 1:80k-1:150k range depending on
the location. When I had to bale last year I learned of the need for context
mappage. Years ago used to carry full 1:62500s (before 1:24k became
available) and never had context problems since the maps were 18 miles wide
and 24 miles high. Thought I was doing myself a favor by only carrying 12
pages of maps on 6 pieces of paper last summer... learned otherwise.
The other thought would be to carry a GPS with all the maps loaded, then one
could zoom-out to get the larger view... but haven't crossed that bridge
yet.
