[pct-l] PCT 2011! Bears in the Cascades

No one that I hiked with last year used a bear can in the Cascades.  In the
Sierra they have bear academies where they all teach each other how to get
food out of trees and everywhere else we used to store it, hence the need
for bear cans.  In the Cascades they are just not as savvy yet.  I would use
good bear sense in hanging your food, but most folks didn't even do that.
 We saw them, but like a good wild creature, they always got off trail as
fast as they could when they saw us.
