[pct-l] Lets Talk: Hats

Good evening, all,

While I wear a ball cap most of the time casually, for hiking I wear a
broad-brimmed nylon hat. Even with a 360 deg. brim I use the “Class of …”
bandanna beneath it to protect my ears and neck when the sun is unrelenting.

The biggest practical gripe I have with a ball cap on the trail is when I
also have to wear a mosquito head-net. Even though I have the kind of net
with a thin, metal stand-off band around its middle, I don’t like the way
that net hangs over a cap. Additionally, I have an ultra-lite, open-mesh
net that I much prefer when hiking in gnat and mosquito country, and it has
no structure whatever; it only hangs from the rim of the hat.

I usually carry both head-nets. I sleep in the one with the stand-off band,
and I hike with the open-mesh model because I can breathe so much easier.
