That probably explains the hint of 'dog food' flavor on the chicken jerky I 
tried!

please do be informed about the source of a great deal of pet foods.
For that, do an internet search for "rendering plants" and you will read
a description of the process which produces much of the input into pet
foods.

Then, eat what you think is best.  But don't say you were not informed.
