[pct-l] trail snacks

Jeff,
My dog also loves that chicken jerkey from Costco - but I wouldn't eat it.
Costco also sells Pacific Gold  BEEF Jerkey.  It is now available in a 12-pack -
12 1.25 oz sealed packages. It is a great trail snack.

I've been lurking on this list for awhile now.  I'm hoping to be on the trail
for 2012 if I can get my finances and work in line for the trip.

I bought a package of this chicken jerky last time I was at Costco.  My dogs
love them.  But this conversation inspired me to go ahead and just eat a strip.

I figure no harm can come from just one strip.

Having tried it, I certainly wouldn't eat them again.  They don't taste
particularly bad but they're very very dry and have a faint taste of 'dog food'
to them (although maybe that was just my imagination).  I figure I can get much
tastier, wetter (although probably heavier) jerky for roughly the same price
either making it myself or finding a bulk supplier.  I personally wouldn't make
the convenience/taste/cost trade off.

All in the name of science.

-Jeff

My package of Kingdom Pets Chicken Jerkey does not say they are irradiated.
Irradiation does not contain heavy metals because it is a type of
preservation method using something like microwaves that kill off the bacteria.

Since the product comes from China, there are probably lots of bacteria to  be
killed. I would like it better if it were irradiated, especially when it
says "not for human consumption."

The dog loves them,  and they look quite  tasty  ... Just dried chicken and
sometimes even dried duck...  But the  irradiation process leaves heavy
materials that the body does not dispel...  They build up in the body over the
course of your life and are eventually  toxic... Much like mercury
