I have to disagree with the following:

>WHATSOEVER you don't use every single day!


If that were true you could ditch lots of NECESSARY items after the first 
couple of days of desert hiking. There goes the
fleece, rain gear, maybe even long pants, sleeping bag, tent, ....

The weather on the PCT is highly variable. Think about the safety factor 
before ditching  stuff.
