i'm a little bit into knives, due to my background in backwoods camping.
here is me reviewing my preferred knives:

but if you're buying from scratch please do yourself a favour and DO NOT but
SOG, or mora knives... SOG doesn't even make knives, they just bid out work to
the cheapest metal manufacturer in japan. they are the worst marketting crap
available right now. i have 5 broken ones and have many friends who have had
the same issue. no consistency.
mora knives last me about 2 weeks of cutting mule tape on my job. for 20$,
fine... but for 100$ you can get a knife that lasts the rest of your life.
my knives are almost exclusively Fallkniven or Bark River,
but for PCT purposes you could do very well with either a spyderco, like an H1
steel; or the ESEE Izula, which has excellent ergonomics.
i HIGHLY recommend you spend the money and at lest get a VG10 steel. H1 for our
purposes is awesome as well. my Izula has a lot of rust on it; as do all my
bark rivers.
you can get this quality for under 100$.
