The roads on the detour were fine. Not much travel, a few helpful locals, don't remember any dogs. Leaving the Punchbowl, I actually walked down the middle of the road! Don't forget to stop at the KOA before you get back on the trail. Great snacks, grass and shade trees, friendly staff. And a trail from there hooks back up with the PCT.
